However, the weekend started in the most terrible way. Perhaps fittingly, his last Formula One outing was at the Race of Champions at Brands Hatch in Aprilwhich also turned out to be the last non-championship F1 race in the modern era.
Following his retirement from the sport, he returned to running a car dealership and later moved into property development and in recent years has diversified into other areas, notably engineering. The talents that they had there was phenomenal.
The team then decided to move into F1 with a turbo version of the engine and a new chassis but the car was not competitive and Henton failed to qualify on all but one occasion in Italy. Obviously it started fizzing so I ran from the kitchen, threw it in the bog, thinking I could flush it away, but heenton fuse went and it blew the toilet to pieces.
So we all came together really, mainly because the BMW-engines, sourced by Walkinshaw were so damn unreliable. His outings in F1 that year for three different teams – the first one he founded and funded – were again uninspiring until he qualified 17th at the Dutch GP in a car which had been mothballed for a year; in the race proper he was disqualified after spinning off and pushing his car across the line.
